Ensuring service provision to children of migrant families

Wednesday 9 April 2014

In close cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration, Branch of «Save the Children International» in the Republic of Tajikistan has conducted four days orientation workshop and Kick Off sessions with newly recruited 6 Lawyers and 6 Income Generation Speiclaists during the first week of April 2014 in the Adults Education Center of the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment.

The main objectives of the workshop were to discuss the service provision process to families in need and reporting requirements through the distance, as well as to familiarize the staff with the EU visibility requirments and SCI policy and regulations. The staff had also opportunity to strengthern their knowldge on migration policy, child protection system of the country and application of Convention on the Rights of the Child in the course of service provision in targtted districts (Ayni, Khujand, Hissor, Tojikobod, Kuliab and Kurgantube).

The EU funded Project “Addressing Negative Economic and Social Consequences of Labour Migration through the Enhancement of Protection Services of Families and Children of Migrants Left Behind in Tajikistan” highlights that families affected by migration tend to be heavily dependent on the abovementioned support services because of high dependency ratios within their households. Currently, not all families referred to specific services can access them, while the quality of the services themselves is frequently inadequate. The Project Lawyers and Income Generation Specialists will fulfil this gap in the system at district level and assist to develop mechanisms to the needs of beneficiaries by providing needs based services and presenting findings to a broad state and non-state audience on improving quality of services to migrants households.
