INCLUSIVE EDUCATION PROJECT DEVELOPMENT FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS HAS LAUNCHED IN KYRGYZSTAN

Monday 24 February 2014

The European Union allocated funds for improving the situation of children and adults with disabilities and their families by removing barriers hindering access to education and creating a positive community environment where their rights are enforced. The Action’s duration is 30 month starting from February 1 2014 to August 2016 and will be implemented in 6 regions in Kyrgyzstan (Bishkek, Osh, Jalal-Abad, Kadamjai, Naryn and Talas). The Action will enable access to education for children with disabilities in line with relevant UN CRC, CRPWD through implementing Inclusive Education curriculum for teachers in Kyrgyzstan  and improving the way in which children are assessed by PMPC to better reflect their abilities and potential for development. Five hundred school children with special needs from vulnerable poor families will be integrated into mainstream schools after their identification and examination by rayon PMPCs. This will be achieved through working directly and increasing the technical capacity of PMPC at national and district level including integrating new consultation/assessment  mechanisms which will involve active participation of both parents and children. It will lead to positive institutional changes which will affect all children with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan. Save the Children International and local NGO partners “Nurbala” and “Bayastan” will also advocate for regular re-assessment of children with disabilities to ensure that their changes needs and ability levels are met with the most appropriate support.
