International World Oral Health Day

Save the Children International celebrated World Oral Health Day at school #62, Istiklol village, A. Jomi district, Khatlon Province. This is an international day intended to highlight the benefits of a healthy mouth and promote worldwide awareness of oral health issues and the importance to everyone, young and old of looking after their oral hygiene. It is a day for people to have fun– a day that should be full of activities that make people laugh, sing and smile.

 

The event engaged above 425 schoolchildren, parents, and community members from targeted and non-targeted schools and representatives of local authorities, District Education Departments, Dentist associations and local radio and TV.  

 

World Oral Health Day was welcomed by Deputy Head of A. Jomi district Nematova Khosiyat. She congratulated all people with this important day and highlighted the significant role of SHN project in Oral health and hygiene prevention, particularly for children. The scenarios of the event were developed and performed by school and kindergartens children. The key oral health and hygiene messages disseminated through a quiz, drawings, songs, puppets show as well as role-plays on teeth brushing, exhibitions and important questions for parents. Six steps of teeth brushing, ranging from caries, periodontal diseases and tooth decay were demonstrated by both primary and secondary school students.

 

The performances were very energetic and the public was very enthusiastic and it proved very powerful for changing behaviors such teeth brushing, changing tooth-brushes every three months, going to the dentist twice a year for prevention and observation in their communities.

 

All the children received different kind of presents for their active performance and participation on behalf of Wrigley SHN project.
