Save the Children conducts training for Tajik officials on providing support to Children of migrant workers

In the framework of the EU funded project “Addressing Negative Economic and Social Consequences of Labour Migration”, a half day Kick Off meeting with participation of officials of the Government took place in the Advanced Training Institute of the Ministry of Labour, Migration and Employment (MLME) on August 25, 2014. The meeting is the follow up to the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Save the Children and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) from one side and MLME from the other side.

“The project takes reasonable initiatives in addressing negative consequences of labour migration and efforts to enhance protection services to families and children of migrants left behind” said Mr. Sanginov, first deputy Minister of Labour, Migration and Employment. At the same time, Mr. Thomas Wimber, Director of Save the Children Office in Central Asia, concluded the meeting: “By building the capacity of governmental actors who work within the child protection and social services structures” he highlight, “the project will further enable the system to provide child-centred responses to the needs and rights of children affected by migration”

The event is continued further with two days training entitled “Essentials of Migration Management” aimed at improving the capacity of civil servants in the field of managing migration and maximising benefits from labour migration on children left behind in Tajikistan. “Such training provided us with a toolkit to improve our capacities to manage migration for the benefit of children and their families” emphasised by Mr. Mahmadbekov, MLME Director of Migration Department, one of the policymakers and practitioners who attended the training.

Since January 2014 Save the Children is implementing the project entitled “Addressing Negative Economic and Social Consequences of Labour Migration through the Enhancement of Protection Services of Families and Children of Migrants Left Behind in Tajikistan”, funded by European Union, in partnership with International Organisation for Migration. Working in 6 districts of Tajikistan, the project address the vulnerability of children from migrant families, improve understanding of situation of children from migrant families and allow for better identification of the most vulnerable households in the targeted districts.
