SAVE THE CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN THE LABOR, VOLUNTEER AND EDUCATION FESTIVAL FOR CELEBRATING YOUTH INTERNATIONAL DAY
August 18, 2014. Kurghonteppa, South Tajikistan. Save the Children staff of Kurghonteppa Field Office took part in the Labor, volunteer and educational festival organized by Khatlon Youth Department and supported by international NGOs, VSO and Sworde Teppa.
Save the Children welcomed over 65 young people and shared information about humanitarian and development work. The festival gave us the opportunity to raise visibility of Save the Children’s mission and vision, activities and achievements in Tajikistan in different themes, such as education, health, agriculture, child rights and livelihood. Also, we reached out many young people, who are highly vulnerable due to lack of job opportunities, especially in South region.
Tajikistan is a young country (median age is 23 years) affected by high unemployment rate, which pushes 1 over 7 young people, mostly men, to migrate to Russian, seeking for jobs. Migrant workers provide 53% of national GDP (official data). The festival gave an opportunity to young people to learn about potential opportunities to work, study and volunteer in the country and abroad.
