THIRD REGIONAL STAKEHOLDER MEETING FOR “WOMEN’S WEALTH AND INFLUENCE” PROJECT

The Third Regional Stakeholder Meeting for “Women’s Wealth and Influence” project, hosted and organized in collaboration with the Committee of the Women and Family Affairs under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, was held on November 21, 2014 in Kurgan-Tube City of Khatlon Region.

The meeting gathered decision-makers representing the Committee of the Women and Family Affairs from 25 districts and cities of Khatlon Region, 3 districts of the Districts under Republican Subordination and more than 60 members of the women’s groups from 17 targeted districts. The first 30 munities of the Meeting was inaugurated by the Celebration of the National Flag Day.

Mr. Marifat Zoirzoda, Head of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs of Khatlon Region, mentioned that the Committee gives its full support to women’s groups and encouraged Save the Children to keep up the good work and to scale it up in other districts of Khatlon Region. Importantly, the WW&I project also links with the National Strategy for 2011-2020. She said: “One woman alone has no power. A woman in a group has power.”

The day continued with presenting WW&I project documentary movie and information, as a powerful tool for change, and discussions around the importance of the women’s groups for families and their communities.

The Head of OSCE office in Khatlon Region Ms. Erica Masiero thanked SC for the invitation and added that indeed it is a project about the women’s empowerment, strength and power. She encouraged to benefit from the exchange experience.

The Regional Meeting present not only an opportunity for participants in the project to meet and share experiences but also allow Save the Children to improve its accountability to beneficiaries through information sharing and the gathering of lessons learned.
