100,000 knitted caps distributed in Tajikistan for raising awareness about the health of newborns
Thanks to Save the Children Korea and the support of Korean people, on September 4, 2014 Save the Children team in Central Asia handed over 100,000 knitted caps to the Ministry of Health to keep babies warm and to raise awareness about health of newborns. The baby caps then will be distributed by the Ministry representatives to infants born in maternal hospital in Khujand and other district hospitals in Sough region.
Baby caps are part of Save the Children efforts to save newborn lives in Tajikistan and symbolizes one of the simple ways to decrease infant mortality, together with early breastfeeding and immunization. “As per WHO standards, babies have to wear hats. A baby cap helps to maintain a good temperature and to keep a balanced temperature on baby’s body during weather changes.”– said Thomas Wimber, Save the Children Country Director. “Distributing baby caps through the Ministry endorses its role as lead of the path for improving the Tajik health system, increasing the trust of mothers towards the health care services” stated Gulchehera Boboeva, responsible of health program for Save the Children.
The baby caps were knitted by Korean volunteers in the initiative “Knit One, Save One” launched by Save the Children in Korea.
