The DRR team conducted initial meetings with schoolchildren and adult members of the target communities to explain the ultimate goal of the Inclusive DRR project and established Emergency Preparedness Teams based in schools and communities.

DRR trainers conducted capacity building trainings for the members of the Disaster Preparedness Child Groups based in schools and Community Emergency Preparedness Teams.  The trainings focused on the disasters, behavior during disaster and risk reduction approaches.  As the result of the capacity building training for the community and schools, the participants developed village hazard maps and family emergency preparedness plans.  The hazard maps developed during the trainings will be modified and put in schools and mosques to make it available for all residents of the target villages.  Community Emergency Preparedness Team members are developing mitigation projects with the support of the engineer and Save the Children DRR team.  Members of the Disaster Preparedness Child Groups developed school emergency preparedness plans and village hazard maps.  The trainers also conducted mini sessions on Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding policy both to the community members and schoolchildren.

Schoolchildren who received training organized school DRR corners which contains information about DRR and the Disaster Preparedness Child Groups’ members and responsibilities, and village hazard map.  They share their knowledge on DRR with their peers and younger students.  All capacity building activities are implemented as part of DIPECHO IX program funded by Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
