Friday 14 October 2016

Dushanbe – Save the Children DRR team organized disaster simulation exercises for all community members that were conducted by members of pre-established and trained Community Emergency Preparedness Teams in 15 target villages of Vakhdat and Varzob districts.  In total, 1536 community members gained practical experience and knowledge during simulation exercises organized by Save the Children.

Each member of Community Emergency Preparedness Teams that were involved to conduct simulation exercises for the residents of the target villages are assigned specific roles, and in case of emergency are able to provide support to their communities.  During the simulation exercises community members including men and women, senior citizens and children were involved to the simulations.  They actively used the early warning tools such as signs, vehicle signals, manual warning tools, and mosque microphone and school bells.  After the simulations COeS and DRR project representatives summarized the activity and gave recommendations on strengths and weaknesses of the activity conducted.

COeS departments and community leaders of the villages provided support in organization of the simulation exercises.   Mahbuba Saidova, Head of COeS Department of Vakhdat District says these simulation exercises are very useful and DRR knowledge and experience is of high importance for the villagers located in disaster prone areas.  During these activities from child to adult acquire essential skills and practical experience on how to behave and reduce disaster caused risks affecting themselves and their families. The simulation exercises are implemented as part of DIPECHO IX program funded by Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
