Thursday 31 July 2014

Just in time for summer, the women’s groups from Makhtumkuli Village, Istiglol Jamoat, Qumsangir District hosted a Melon and Watermelon Field Day July 29, 2014.

The event included melon & watermelon tasting and lunch. The women also shared the melon jam recipe and dried honeydew melon, made with sweet flavor without additives or preservatives.

During the event, the women talked about soil water- holding techniques, using irrigated versus non-irrigated (dryland) farming, tools to measure soil water, updates in fungicide and on how they sell their melons to customers as well as about their lives in general.

The DFID-funded Women’s Wealth & Influence project aims to increase women’s wealth and influence within their families and communities and is now in its third year of operation.

Melons and watermelon are rich in vitamins and minerals, but low in calories – eat it and enjoy it!

Roziqova Sharifamo, leader of the women’s group “Sharifamo” from Navobod Village, Rohati Jamoat, Rudaki District, is sharing her experiences of growing melon using dryland agricultural technique for non- irrigated cultivation
