Rural women create employment opportunities in Vose District

Friday 1 July 2016

In a peer-to-peer collaborative effort, two women groups 'Rizo' and 'Sharifjon', based in the Vose district, have established sewing workshops, providing employment for 12 women in their communities.
Together, they pooled their savings and established an initial starter fund. Following a process of shared brainstorming, the women  determined that founding a sewing workshop, as an income-generating opportunity, would be the fund's most efficient and effective method of improving their economic situation.

The women presented their business proposal to the local authority who in turn granted them the use of a building to commence their project. Inspired by the woman's passion and integrity, grants, in the form of 60 coat hangers by a district based microfinance bank, 22 chairs + 16 tables by the Education Department and 4 sewing machines by the Labor and Employment Agency were provided.

Starting in January 2016, 12 women have been provided employment, each following a 6 hour per day shift. Additionally, through an agreement between each of the women groups and the Vose Labor and Employment Agency, 30 young women have received sewing training and been issued certificates by the agency.
