Women’s Wealth and Influence Project women shared best practice in effective group cash management and engagement in income generating activities

On August 17, 2016 four (4) women’s groups (WG) “Nurbonu”, “Navbahor”, “Omad” and “Niso” in A.Jomi district received the representatives of WGs from another sixteen (16) target districts of Tajikistan in A.Jomi district. About 60 women assembled in order to share their best practice in the management of collected group cash and starting income generation activities leaning on “You decide” methodology. The event has been organized by Save the Children sponsored Women’s Wealth and Influence (WW&I) Project funded by DFID in village Mushkrud, jamoat Yakkatut. Representatives of local government were also invited and took part in the occasion.
 
 
“Today women are contributing significantly to the improvement of agriculture, education and health sectors.  Together with men, women also make efforts towards the improvement of the economic stand of their families” stated Ne’matova Hosiyat, Deputy Head of A.Jomi district”.
 

WGs “Nurbonu”, “Navbahor”, “Omad” and “Niso” shared their experience in effective management of pooled group cash in order to get income. WGs’ leaders and members engaged in dressmaking, gold embroidering, carpet waving, purchase and sale clothing and livestock breeding.  “Our WG Niso consists of 12 women. We collect money and use them for dressmaking and gold embroidering” said Dussanova Niso, Leader of the group. 

“I’m a member of WG Nurbonu. I have 5 children. Using the group money I launched a small cook shop at a local market. For the next year I’ve planned to arrange higher education of my daughter at a university” continued another WG member.

Toshpulotova Sohiba, Leader of WG “Navbahor” and at the same time an active woman of the community, today is managing carpet and atlas waving and gold embroidery workshops and is teaching young women of the district.
